Wendover Woods – 20 minutes by car from the Peacock
Situated on the northern edge of the Chilterns, Wendover Woods provides panoramic views across the Aylesbury Vale. In addition to a woodland playground for children, there are plenty of walks and bike trails including an all ability path to reach the Chiltern’s highest point.

Go Ape - 20 minutes by car from the Peacock
Wendover Woods is also now home to a Go Ape site (www.goape.co.uk), a hire-wire obstacle course through the tree tops, complete with ladders, wire bridges and zip lines. Advance bookings advised.

Buckinghamshire Railway Centre – 25 minutes by car from the Peacock
The Bucks Railway Centre is a working steam museum where you can view the giants of the steam age at close quarters, including a carriage used by General Eisenhower and Winston Churchill. The Centre also regularly organises ‘days out’ with Thomas the Tank Engine, giving children the opportunity to ‘ride behind’ Thomas and meet The Fat Controller.

Waddesdon Manor

Built by the Rothschild family in the 19th century, Waddesdon Manor is a magnificent house and grounds in the style of a French chateau; it also has a lovely woodland play area for children.

Ashridge Estate – 30 minutes by car from the Peacock
A fabulous estate which runs across the borders of Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, along the main ridge of the Chiltern Hills, and which offers excellent walks through outstanding scenery. There are also sweeping views from Ivinghoe Beacon accessible from Steps Hill.

This stunning university town provides a really wonderful day out – explore the cobbled streets and impressive colleges and courtyards, wander round the timeless Covered Market, take a tour on an open top bus or hire a punt, take a picnic and take in the views from the River Cherwell which winds its way through this famous city.
